The marriage of three art forms is a challenging endeavor. Three creatives — an artist, a writer, and a designer began a journey together to create a unique and unconventional book.

Come Closer is a collection of 28 abstract and symbolic pencil drawings, ekphrastic poetry, prose, and playfully designed pages. Come Closer invites, challenges, and dares the curious to immerse themselves and ultimately find connections through life’s experiences.

The artist created abstract pencil drawings as she sought deeper understanding in global events such as social unrest and the coronavirus pandemic, while also exploring larger themes such as fear, truth, self-acceptance, sorrow, and love. The literary portion is the writer’s exploration of those same themes and includes her interpretations of the art. The typographic expression on the pages is the designer’s individual, yet holistic interpretation of the book and its themes.

The book itself will be a unique piece of art, ready for placement on your mantel, coffee table, or your office desk. The images here are a mock up of the book to show size and layout. There are profound truths among the words, experiential symbolism in the drawings, and playful typography on every page. This is not meant to be a one-time read, Come Closer is many things:
